Alchemy was the second full-length Perlin Noise album. It was the first Perlin Noise release to feature contributions from the full band, which consisted of me on guitar and vocals, Tom Lessig on lead guitar, Nate Getchell on bass, and Matt Werner on drums. Brooke Witherite joined near the end of recording sessions and contributed piano and vocals to several songs.
Most of the album was written and demos were recorded during the COVID lockdown. Tom was able to contribute guitar tracks he recorded remotely. Other band members recorded their parts later when we resumed practicing and performing.
The album was recorded and mixed in my house in Philadelphia, PA using improved recording equipment I bought after releasing Lost Generation. Guitar amp emulators were replaced with real mic'd tube amps, software synths were replaced with a real analog KORG Minilogue XD, drum programming was replaced with drums performed by a real drummer, and a real 1176-like compressor was used on many of the tracks. It was mastered by Joe Lambert.
